MAGC's Solutions

MAGC Technologies, in collaboration with Alcan Chemicals, provides a very efficient, cost effective and readily accessible solution to the arsenic and fluoride contamination problems.

MAGC has designed a series of containment systems that are robust, user friendly, cost effective, require no power and can be used at the well-head. The units are designed to supply several families with arsenic free water. These units are made locally and have a warranty of 5 years but are expected to have a lifetime of 10 to 15 years. Small family units are also available. Larger scale units to supply a whole community are also possible.

Alcan Chemicals, part of the multi-national Alcan Inc. company , has developed an enhanced form of activated alumina, termed AA FS-50, which is highly effective at adsorbing the arsenic from water. AA FS-50 is a granular material with a very high surface area that readily allows water to percolate through it. Once adsorbed on the surface, the arsenic is tightly bound. After a period dependent upon the particular water being treated, the arsenic 'saturated' media must be changed. The spent media could be regenerated but it is more cost effective to dispose of the spent media under the appropriate conditions. The spent media has been tested to the requirements set by the US EPA, the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP), and can be disposed of safely in a landfill site.

Alcan's enhanced activated alumina, AA FS-50 has been found to be very effective at removing high levels of fluoride from water.
